Why am I banned

Channel Bans

Network staff do not intervene in channel politics or bans. If you have been banned and believe you should be unbanned, you must contact the channel operator—preferably the one who imposed the ban—or the channel founder. For channel-specific bans, please reach out to the channel founder or a member of that channel's staff.

To determine which ban is preventing you from joining a channel, use the following command:

/whyban #channel

Example:

Ban cleveruser!*user@542.abc.178.910.IP matches cleveruser (set by foxwizard on 2023-11-15 14:32:47 UTC)

If you're still in the channel, you can also view the channel's ban list by typing:

/mode #channel +b

If you're unsure which ban applies to you, perform a /whois on yourself:

/whois YourNick

• If you accidentally banned yourself and have sufficient access, you can unban yourself with the following command:

 /msg ChanServ UNBAN #channel

• To unban someone else, use this command:

 /msg ChanServ UNBAN #channel banmask

Who is the Channel Founder?

To view the channel's information, including the founder's nickname, use this command:

/msg ChanServ INFO #channel

Messaging the Channel Operator or Founder

To send a private message to the channel operator or founder, use the following command:

/query nick Your message here

If they are offline, you can send a memo with:

/msg MemoServ SEND nick Your message here

If they decide to maintain your ban, kindly respect their decision. Channel staff enforce their own policies, and channel matters, including bans, are at the discretion of the channel founder.

Network Bans

Network bans are issued when necessary to enforce the network’s policies and ensure a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all users. These bans are applied at the discretion of network staff and may vary in scope and severity depending on the circumstances.

If you are banned, it typically means your activity or behavior was found to be in violation of the network's acceptable use policies. Our goal is to promote fairness and accountability while preserving the integrity of the community.

Network Ban Durations

Ban durations are determined by the severity of the violation, with longer bans typically issued for more serious offenses. For minor infractions, bans may last only a few hours or days, while more severe violations may result in extended bans or even permanent removal from the network. The duration of a ban is carefully assessed based on the nature and impact of the violation.

DNSBL (Blacklists)

The network may block connections from IP addresses listed on DNS-based Blacklists (DNSBLs) to prevent spam and malicious activity. Common issues include:

• Tor Exit Nodes: Tor usage is not permitted on this network.
• DroneBL: Follow DroneBL's instructions for IP removal.
• EFnet RBL: Visit EFnet RBL for removal instructions.
