Why am I banned
Channel Bans
Network staff do not intervene in channel disputes or bans. If you believe a ban is unjustified, you must contact the channel operator who set the ban or the channel founder. For bans specific to a channel, please reach out to the channel founder or a member of that channel’s staff for assistance.
If you are still in the channel, you can view the channel's ban list by typing:
/mode #channel +b
If you are unsure which ban applies to you, perform a WHOIS on yourself:
/whois YourNick
- Unbanning Yourself or Others
- If you accidentally banned yourself and have sufficient privileges, you can unban yourself using:
/msg ChanServ UNBAN #channel
- To unban another user, use:
/msg ChanServ UNBAN #channel banmask
- Who is the Channel Founder?
To find information about the channel, including the founder’s nickname, run:
/msg ChanServ INFO #channel
Example output:
-ChanServ- Information on #TechTalk: -ChanServ- Founder : CyberKnight -ChanServ- Successor : DataMancer -ChanServ- Registered : Jan 12 22:18:29 2021 +0100 (3 years, 2 weeks, 6 days ago) -ChanServ- Mode lock : +nt-lk -ChanServ- Flags : Secure, KeepTopic -ChanServ- Prefix : ! (Default) -ChanServ- '''* End of Info '''*
- Messaging the Channel Operator or Founder
To send a private message to the channel operator or founder:
/query nick Your message here
If they are offline, you can leave them a memo:
/msg MemoServ SEND nick Your message here
If they uphold your ban, please respect their decision. Channel staff enforce their own policies, and channel matters, including bans, are at their discretion.

Network Bans
Network bans are issued to enforce the network’s policies and maintain a safe, welcoming environment for all users. These bans are applied by network staff and vary in scope and severity based on the violation.
If you are banned, it usually means your behavior violated the network’s acceptable use policies. The goal is to promote fairness and accountability while preserving the community’s integrity.
If you believe a network ban was issued in error or have questions, please contact the network’s support team for clarification.
- Network Ban Durations
Ban lengths depend on the severity of the violation:
- Minor infractions may result in short bans lasting hours or days.
- Serious violations can lead to extended bans or permanent removal.
Each ban duration is carefully evaluated based on the nature and impact of the offense.
- DNSBL (Blacklists)
To prevent spam and malicious activity, the network may block connections from IP addresses listed on DNS-based Blacklists (DNSBLs), including:
- Tor Exit Nodes: Use of Tor is not allowed on this network.
- [DroneBL](https://dronebl.org/lookup): Follow their removal procedures if listed.
- [EFnet RBL](https://rbl.efnetrbl.org/remove.php): Visit for removal instructions.
